Frantic Passion

Carolina went to the square to find her childhood friend Luana. She had not seen her for ten years, because Luana’s father won a millionaire prize in lottery games, thus he moved out with his family to São Paulo and never returned to the small town Aurora. As she walked, Carolina remembered her childhood. At school, the boys use to say that the ugliest girl in town was Luana. The girls sighed for Diego because in addition to his good looking appeareance, he was a farmer's son. Currently, he was famous, his songs were successful and he was a soap opera actor. Carolina arrived at the square and sat down on the bench. She waited for about twenty minutes, but her friend did not show up. Desmayed, she decided to leave, when a beautiful woman approached her and said:

-"I'm sorry for the delay, I had a flat tire and had trouble changing it.

- "I'm sorry, miss, but I do not know you," Carolina said, upset.

-"My name is Luana Lopes," said the other girl, smiling.

- Wow! That ugly girl has become a beautiful woman!

Carolina said in amazement. "My father has become a millionaire, money makes miracles. I used braces, I had plastic surgery to remove scars from my face, since my breasts were small the doctor enhanced them with silicone and fifteen days ago they did a liposuction on my belly, Luana said. "You look stunning," Carolina said and hugged her friend. Luana asked for her help in order to conquer the great love of her life. Because she was always in love with the good-looking singer and actor Diego. She hired a private detective to investigate the life of this handsome boy. He was single since he had broken up with his last girlfriend. Next weekend, he would come to the city to visit his friend Zacarias, they would go to the Sweet Corn Festival, on Saturday. Luana would not miss this excellent opportunity to declarare her love for him. Carolina said she would help her, because she deserved to be happy with Diego. So the girl friends agreed to meet after three days and Luana gave to her friend two thousand dollars as a gift. On Friday morning, disguised, the girls began to follow Zacarias.

Several hours passed, but the boy kept on walking alone, Luana got discouraged. At two p.m., he went to a cafe, where he met another boy. Using the binoculars, Luana recognized Diego. After about ten minutes, anxiously, she approached them. While they were talking, several young ladies entered the cafeteria. Suddenly, one of them shouted, "I'm going to faint because I’m seeing the handsome singer and actor Diego. "Diego's doing a show in the northeast," Zacarias said. -Liar! Your friend is the heartthrob Diego, please, give me your autograph, said the girl. "I want to kiss him on the mouth," said the other girl. Zacarias and Diego ran out of the cafe but several girls started following them. Near the corner a motorcycle was parked, Diego grabbed the key, turned on the vehicle and left the city along with his friend.

 Luana got saddened, and all the women of the city was standind in front of Zacarias’ house. They wanted to talk to Diego and take pictures with the famous actor and singer. At seven p.m., Zacarias returned home all by himself and said, "Diego wants to come to the Green Corn Festival tomorrow. He wants to talk and take pictures with his fans, but he wants to be treated as a normal human being and not as an idol. Zacarias’ twin cousins laughed and said together: - We will protect Diego from the wicked women of this city. The women talked to each other and agreed to respect Diego, because everyone should have fun at the Sweet Corn Party. On Saturday, at eight p.m., the famous boy arrived at the event. Several people greeted him, some girls asked for his autograph or took pictures of him. Zacarias, his twin cousins and the policeman João protected Diego. After a few minutes of greetings, the mayor came closer and asked them to taste cooked sweet corn, pamonha, sweet corn pudding, cake, and other foods. People asked Diego to sing his famous songs and at eleven p.m. he went up on stage and began to sing them. The show lasted almost two hours, the crowd applauded. Luana, from afar, was discouraged, for she could not talk to her love. At three a.m., Diego and his friend Zacarias left the party. Carolina felt sorry for her friend so she called Zacarias and asked him to help Luana declare her love for her Prince Charming. At first the boy tried to get rid of her, but he was moved to help them. Diego was staying in Zacarias' uncle's house. He arrived at the place during the night, glad he had fun at the party. He went to the guest room, took a shower, then laid down on the bed. After about five minutes Luana entered the room and recited this poetry:

MY HANDSOME PRINCE CHARMING

IN FAIRY TALES THERE IS NOBODY AS SPECIAL AS YOU

IF SNOW WHITE OR CINDERELLE EXISTED

THEY WOULD LEAVE THEIR COMPANIONS

I AM LUANA, THAT UGLY GIRL OF SCHOOL

UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT HAVE THE FAIRY GODMOTHER

BUT MONEY AND SOME PLASTIC SURGERIES TURNED ME

INTO A BEAUTIFUL LADY

DIEGO, SINCE MY CHILDHOOD I LOVE YOU DEEPLY

PLEASE, GIVE ME THE CHANCE OF CONQUERING YOUR HEART BECAUSE I WILL GIVE YOU LOTS OF LOVE AND AFFECTION

YOU WILL BE THE HAPPIEST MAN IN THE WORLD

Diego was moved, hugged Luana and kissed her. Zacarias and Carolina were in the garden, upset the boy said:

- Diego has now a new girlfriend.

- Luana was able to fulfill her childhood dream, said Carolina.

- I will never get a girlfriend, because I'm ugly, poor and I do not have a car, Diego said.

- My teeth are crooked, I need to lose twenty pounds, and there are freckles and pimples on my face. I do not have money to go to the gym nor have plastic surgery, said Carolina. - Well, I'd love to date a cute, sweet girl like you, Zacarias said.

- Since you're a nice guy, I accept to be your girlfriend, said Carolina.

They both laughed then hugged and kissed each other.
